About

Welcome to Plastic Tracker, a powerful tool at the forefront of combating plastic pollution. Leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as GAN-enhanced satellite imagery, we have developed a robust model capable of detecting plastic debris in oceans, riverways, and lakes worldwide.

An estimated 8 million tons of plastic waste ends upin the ocean every year of which up to 80% originatesfrom land through riverways (UN, 2022). This numberis expected to triple by 2040. The top 122 polluting rivers contributed to more than 90% of the plastic debris (2017, Nature Communications), which is why Plastic Tracker was orginally built for use of riverway accumulation hotspot tracking in pilot sites around Europe.

Getting Started

1. Select Area and Date: Choose your desired location, whether it's the mesmerizing Rotterdam canal or any other place you're curious about. Pick the date to track the evolution of plastic waste over time.

2. Draw Your Polygon: Define your area of interest by drawing a polygon on the map. This enables precise analysis and targeted monitoring within the chosen region.

3. Unlock Insights: Watch the map zoom in and witness the magic unfold. Plastic Tracker will highlight hotspots of plastic debris and algae, providing valuable metrics such as the percentage of density and accuracy. These insights empower you to make informed decisions and take action against pollution.

We are actively seeking partners and users who can benefit from our data while helping us validate and refine our models. Join us in our mission to make a lasting impact on the health of our planet and create a cleaner, plastic-free future.

The validation of hot spots as the waste collected by the our partners are weighed and GPS tagged with high precision (<2.5cm). For instance, autonomous integrations with real-time in-situ monitoring of water quality with
RanMarine's WasteShark allows for verification and close research of correlation between plastic levels and toxicity levels.

Coral Lab

Coral reefs are exceptionally valuable; they provide food, livelihoods and economic opportunity to more than half a billion people in over 100 countries; they are also teeming with life, hosting a quarter of all known marine species. Nearly 200 million people depend on coral reefs to protect them from storm surges and waves. Increased acidification, pollution, fishing and other forms of coastal activities all impact our fuure of our coral reefs.
